In 2021 and 2022, Pakhuis de Zwijger will realize the research program Designing Cities for All with financial support from the Creative Industries Fund NL. A series of talks, presentations, workshops, expert meetings, lectures, films and a book and exhibition about the role of designers in (re)designing the inclusive city. A city of, for and by everyone.
In this time when cities are becoming more and more diverse (cities with only minorities) it is important that we focus emphatically on feeling at home; that you can be who you are in the city. ‘Cities of belonging’ as we call them. Cities where everyone is welcome and can develop optimally, regardless of age, nationality, race, abilities, gender (identity) or cultural and religious background. This not only concerns spatial and product design, but also the design of digital public and commercial platforms, systems and services.
