The ongoing violence, systemic bombing, and war crimes inflicted on the Palestinian people, along with the oppression of others in neighbouring regions, have devastating effects that are felt across the globe. In these times, standing up in solidarity with Palestine is more important than ever. Join us at New Metropolis Nieuw-West for a community gathering that celebrates the resilience and rich cultural heritage of Palestine through its art and cuisine. This day offers space for reflection, conversation, and connection. Together, we will raise funds for Stichting Kifaia to support the people of Gaza.

Location: New Metropolis Metropolis Nieuw-West (Burgemeester Rendorpstraat 1, 1064 LH Amsterdam).

Join us for an afternoon of workshop(s) and a walk-in dinner in New Metropolis Nieuw-West. Enjoy the freshly prepared Palestinian foods and drinks made by the local community.

Programme

Workshop: 14:00 – 17:00

Walk-in dinner and music: 17:00 – 20:00

About the workshop

During the afternoon there will be a Tatreez workshop given by the Palestinian artist Ghenva Alkabra. The craft of Tatreez (Arabic for ‘embroidery’), is a traditional Palestinian style of cross-stitch embroidery that is mostly known for its colorful and geometric patterns. Historically hand-stitched by women, it serves as a form of cultural expression, storytelling, and heritage preservation, with motifs often symbolising regional identities and personal stories. Tatreez is commonly found on clothing and accessories, reflecting Palestinian history and resilience.

During this workshop, you will learn more about the craft and its traditional meaning within Palestinian culture. In a small group, you will work on your own project and learn the basics of the craft. The workshop will last approximately three hours. There are limited spots available, so make sure to sign up beforehand!

About the walk-in dinner

Come in and enjoy traditional Palestinian food and drinks during the evening, prepared by the local community. There will be time and space to sit around and connect over dinner. Traditional music will be played. More information will follow soon!

Programme seriesJustice for Palestine

The Justice for Palestine series will focus upon the broader historic- and present-day context of colonisation, apartheid and military occupation that preceded the horrific October 7th attacks and the relentless bombardments of the Gaza strip that followed. By starting these dialogues, we aim to focus on envisioning sustainable solutions for justice, equality and peace in Historic Palestine for all people who are living there.
